Fitbit users must take action to avoid losing their health and fitness data by 2026. The company has extended the deadline for merging accounts with Google to February 2, 2026.
Users who do not complete this merge risk permanent deletion of all stored health, fitness, and wellness information. Fitbit recently communicated this deadline change via email, emphasizing that users have until the new date to integrate their data, else it will be wiped, along with historical data previously stored on the platform.
The merger process commenced in the summer of 2023, initially scheduled to be completed by 2025, but is now extended. Users of newer Fitbit devices may not need to worry, as their accounts likely merged during the setup process.
For those who haven’t yet migrated, they can do so by navigating to the Fitbit app and selecting Settings, then Move Account. It is crucial to ensure the app is updated, as the merge option might not be visible otherwise.
Upon acquiring Fitbit for $2.1 billion in 2021, Google announced plans to merge user data to enhance the overall experience. This move provides a single login for Fitbit and other Google services, improved security, and centralized privacy controls for user data.
The integration includes a user’s health and fitness history, promoting convenience and peace of mind through Google’s security measures. Fitbit has been actively communicating the need for this account merge through various channels, warning users that failure to comply will result in not only data loss but also a lack of access to Fitbit’s features.
Although the deadline is set for February 2, 2026, users are encouraged to act sooner to protect their information.
