Onyx Boox has launched version 4.0 of its Page e-reader, introducing a range of enhancements aimed at refining the reading experience. This unexpected update, coming in at 338MB, was reported by Android Central on April 8.
One of the primary focuses of this update is improving the screen-touching experience. Boox has optimized the user interface and operational feedback prompts, which the company claims will make touch interactions more intuitive and precise.
Additionally, there’s a new feature that allows users to enable or disable “full refresh” when navigating back to the home screen, easily accessible through Settings. The Library and NeoReader components also receive significant updates.
Users can now customize the top function bar of the Library, rearranging features as needed. The “Library View” now includes a quick toggle button for ease of access.
Furthermore, Boox has introduced customizable Reading Themes, allowing alterations to font, margin, spacing, and background color, enhancing user personalization. The update also brings a revamped reading progress bar and support for independent settings related to fonts in reflowable documents.
Other enhancements include an optimized OCR function that works in the background while reading PDFs and a refined word lookup experience, allowing users to prioritize options in the NeoReader settings. Overall, the 4.0 update improves system stability and fixes known issues, but may temporarily cause increased heat and power consumption during the initial optimization period post-update.
The Onyx Boox Page remains a solid choice for readers, equipped with a 7-inch E Ink display and dual page-turning buttons that streamline the reading process.
