Google has begun rolling out its April security update for the entire Pixel lineup, including the new Pixel 9a. This update not only enhances security but also addresses several issues that users experienced in the past month. According to Google, the latest patch fixes camera problems and resolves the brightness flicker that some users reported affecting their devices.
The update, which was detailed on April 10, includes specific version numbers for different models. For instance, Pixel 6, Pixel 9, and Pixel Tablet users will receive version BP1A.250405.007, while owners of Pixel 7, 7a, Pixel 8, and 8a will see a version ending with B1. The new Pixel 9a will receive version BD4A.250405.003.
Among the noteworthy improvements, a fix for camera stability during zooming for certain conditions is included for the Pixel 6, 7 series, and the original Fold. Another highlight of this update is the fix for the brightness flickering issue that affected users while streaming content on platforms like Netflix or Prime Video. Users had previously resorted to changing their display’s refresh rate as a workaround, but this official patch is expected to resolve the issue entirely.
Beyond these fixes, the changelog mentions improvements to fingerprint recognition, weather clock display on the lock screen, and glitches related to the Pixel Launcher during user switching. However, some ongoing issues, like alarm malfunctions and outdated weather forecasts, were not addressed in this update. On another note, the Pixel 9 Pro XL stands out as the largest model from the latest release, offering advanced features and a robust camera system, catering to users who prioritize performance and visual quality.
