Android users can celebrate as Google Chrome has introduced a long-awaited feature: the bottom address bar, which has been available on iOS since 2023. This update comes with the release of Chrome version 135 for Android, enhancing the browsing experience, particularly on larger screens.
The new bottom address bar makes it easier for users to navigate, especially on devices that are challenging to handle one-handed. Google initially began testing this feature last October and is now rolling it out across the stable version of the browser.
According to reports, some users are already seeing prompts such as, “You can touch and hold to move the address bar to the bottom.” Additionally, within the Chrome settings, there’s a new “Address bar” section where users can choose to position it at the top or bottom based on their preferences.
While the positioning of the address bar has changed, the overall interface remains largely the same. Users still have to reach the top of the screen for features like the three-dot menu, which contains options like new tabs and bookmarks.
Ideally, these frequently used options should have been reordered to be more accessible at the bottom. This feature has begun appearing in the Chrome 135 version and is expected to roll out more widely soon.
The demand for this convenient feature has been high, especially as modern phones have increased in size, making one-handed use more cumbersome. Other browsers like Samsung Internet and Arc have offered this feature for some time, so it is gratifying to see Google finally catch up with user expectations and enhance the Android experience.
