Meta has announced significant upgrades for its Ray-Ban smart glasses, introducing a new stylish frame called Skyler Shiny Chalky Gray. In addition to the fresh design, the glasses are receiving a boost in artificial intelligence capabilities. Starting this week, Ray-Ban Meta users in the U.S. and Canada will be able to utilize Live AI, allowing for continuous interaction with Meta AI. Users can simply say, “Hey Meta, start Live AI,” enabling hands-free conversations and insights while engaging with their surroundings.
This feature, which has been in Early Access, is now poised for general availability. Users can leverage this tool for practical tasks, such as asking cooking-related questions while preparing meals. The Live Translation feature is also becoming accessible to all users. This function allows for conversations in multiple languages, including English, French, Italian, and Spanish—further enhancing the glasses’ multilingual capabilities.
Moreover, Meta is expanding its messaging services on the smart glasses, adding Instagram alongside existing support for Messenger and WhatsApp. This enhancement will enable audio and video calling through Instagram, appealing to a broader range of users. European customers, who previously lacked access to many Meta AI features, will soon gain the ability to engage with Meta AI regarding contextual inquiries related to what they see. However, they will not receive the full suite of Live AI tools just yet.
In addition to these updates, Meta plans to extend sales of the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses to India, Mexico, and the UAE, bringing the total number of supported countries to 18. The glasses feature a 12MP camera, 32GB of storage, and a range of stylish new designs, including options for prescription lenses. As competition in the smart glasses market intensifies, Meta is expected to roll out more innovative solutions in the near future.
