Google is enhancing the convenience of its Gemini app with a new update, which introduces home screen widgets on both Android and iOS devices. This update aims to provide users quicker access to key features directly from their home screens. The Gemini app will feature widgets that allow users to easily access functions such as the camera, file/image sharing, and the ability to initiate chats without needing to enter the full application. For Android users, these widgets can be added by tapping and holding on the home screen, selecting “Widgets,” and locating the Gemini options.
Users can customize, resize, or remove these widgets by dragging them to the “Remove” option at the top of the screen. The rollout of these features for Android devices running Android 10 and higher began on April 30.
iOS users will also benefit from this update. By tapping and holding their home screen and selecting “Edit,” they can find and customize their widgets to suit their preferences. The update is now available for iPhones running iOS 17 and above, with a gradual rollout expected to be largely completed by the following week.
Previously, in March, Gemini added widgets to the lock screen for iOS users, including features like Type Prompt and Open Mic, enabling quick access to the app. Android users were not left behind either, as an update in December allowed them to use Gemini’s functions directly from the lock screen. Google has hinted at further developments for Gemini during its upcoming I/O 2025 event, scheduled for May 20. Users can look forward to improvements in productivity and interaction, as the potential of Gemini continues to expand.
