There are emerging reports suggesting that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 may not utilize a Snapdragon processor as initially expected. Instead, Samsung may opt for its own Exynos 2500 chipset for this upcoming foldable device.
According to a report from The Chosun Daily, this decision represents a significant shift, marking the first time Samsung’s foldable phones will be powered by one of its in-house processors. For some time, there have been mixed messages regarding the processor choice for the Galaxy Z Flip 7.
Although there was testing of Snapdragon variants internally, the prevailing consensus now indicates that the Exynos 2500 will lead the charge for this model. Despite its relatively low yield rates, estimated between 20% and 40%, the Exynos chip has apparently reached a level of stability that allows Samsung to proceed with it for the Galaxy Z Flip 7.
In contrast, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is still anticipated to feature a Snapdragon processor. The decision to prioritize the Exynos 2500 stems from production challenges associated with Samsung’s foundry capabilities, limiting the efficiency and reliability of its chip manufacturing.
This situation has compelled the company to rely on processors from competitors like MediaTek and Qualcomm for many recent flagship devices. The Galaxy S24, for instance, shipped with Exynos 2400 in select regions, while the S25 series adopted Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite across the board.
Despite the Exynos 2500’s performance not meeting Samsung’s ideal production targets, the company is reportedly moving ahead with its own silicon for the Galaxy Z Flip 7. The device is expected to enter mass production soon, with an anticipated reveal at a Galaxy Unpacked event in New York City in July.
