Oura has recently launched two innovative features in the U.S. that focus on metabolic health, expanding its AI-powered capabilities. In partnership with Dexcom, a leading healthcare company that specializes in continuous glucose monitoring systems, Oura now enables users to track their blood glucose levels directly through its app. To access this feature, users must either purchase or already own the Stelo biosensor, a small FDA-approved device that is worn on the upper arm. Once integrated, the device sends glucose readings to the Oura app, allowing members to gain insights into how various lifestyle factors—including nutrition, stress, movement, and sleep—impact their glucose levels.
Additionally, a new “Glucose screen” within the app provides contextual graphs and insights from the Oura Advisor, helping users optimize their glucose balance. Understanding a key metric known as “Time Above Range” is essential for users monitoring their blood glucose. This metric reflects the duration spent above their target glucose levels. Through AI analysis, the Oura app presents daily glucose trends influenced by the user’s lifestyle.
According to Shyamal Patel, Oura’s senior vice president of science, glucose spikes can be significantly affected by various lifestyle factors. Alongside glucose tracking, Oura’s new “Meals” feature simplifies meal logging. Users can take a photo of their plate, and the app will analyze it, focusing on macronutrients instead of just calorie count. This feature breaks down meal components, providing insights into protein, fiber, added sugars, and overall nutritional content.
Personalized, non-judgmental advice from the Oura Advisor aids users in understanding their meals better. Currently available on iOS and Android for U.S.-based Oura members, the Meals feature will expand internationally later this year. To utilize glucose monitoring, users can purchase the Stelo sensor for $99 through Oura’s website.
