Gemini Live, a feature initially available for personal Google accounts, is now being rolled out to Google Workspace users in work and school settings. This means that users with Workspace accounts can now take advantage of Gemini Live’s conversation capabilities within the Gemini mobile app.
This new functionality allows for multimodal conversations, enabling users to communicate in real time through voice, camera, or screen sharing. Importantly, administrators of Workspace accounts do not have the ability to restrict access to Gemini Live on an individual basis; it is available automatically when Gemini access is enabled.
Users must keep Gemini Apps Activity on, and their activity cannot be manually deleted. This feature is also limited to users who are 18 years or older, which may affect some student accounts due to age restrictions.
Google has outlined specific differences in privacy and data collection policies for users within work and school accounts. When using Gemini with a workplace account, the conversation history is retained for a period of 18 months, even if users attempt to delete their chats.
Google collects interactions to enhance and develop its products and services actively, which is particularly relevant for users with the Gemini Apps add-on. The rollout of Gemini Live for all Google Workspace domains has begun, but users may experience a staggered rollout that could take up to 15 days for complete accessibility.
This update supports a variety of Google Workspace plans and promises significant advancements in AI features, coinciding with Google I/O 2025, a conference set to showcase further developments in the realm of technology and AI.
