Google’s Gemini assistant has officially brought live camera and screen sharing features to iPhones and iPads in the United States. This exciting addition, powered by Project Astra, allows users to engage in discussions, explore their surroundings, and receive assistance with displayed content through the Gemini app.
Users can access Gemini Live through the most recent version of the Gemini app (1.2025.2062302). This feature is available to both free and paid subscribers, including those with Google AI Pro and AI Ultra plans.
The rollout of Gemini Live on iOS follows its successful presence on Android devices, as confirmed by various reports. At the recent Google I/O event, the company announced its plans to extend Project Astra’s capabilities to Apple devices, and the implementation is now underway.
Within the Gemini app, iPhone users will notice a new pop-up prompting them to “Share your camera or screen with Gemini Live,” explaining the various functionalities they can utilize. Upon tapping “Try Live,” iPhone users enter a familiar interface that provides options for video chat, screen sharing, pausing, or ending sessions.
When opting for the camera feature, Gemini Live can actively recognize and respond to what the camera is pointed at, and for screen sharing, users will receive a notification for “Screen Broadcast,” enabling Gemini to access their display once they confirm. This launch is particularly noteworthy as it showcases Gemini Live’s compatibility with Apple devices, despite the existence of Apple’s own AI technology.
Users interested in these new features need to ensure they have the latest app version installed to enjoy the full capabilities of Gemini Live.
