Google Meet is introducing a new feature that allows users to share content directly from external cameras, including document cameras and video production tools. This update, which is currently being rolled out, aims to enhance the experience for users involved in conference calls.
With the addition of this feature, Google Meet will now support streaming at 1080p and 30 frames per second from these external devices. To utilize this new option, users need to enable the “Share content from camera” toggle found in the Settings under the General tab.
Once activated, users should be able to access their external cameras through the Presentation icon during a meeting. Alongside this capability, the update also improves the overall screen sharing experience.
Presentations are now quicker to start, and video quality has been upgraded for viewers, ensuring smoother transitions, whether scrolling or displaying videos. Moreover, a quality-of-life update allows older presentations to resume seamlessly when sharing is handed off between presenters.
However, it is essential to note that this update is primarily designed for Google Workspace users. Individuals using Google Meet through Business, Enterprise, Education Plus, or individual Workspace accounts will benefit from these enhancements.
The rollout for users in the rapid-release domain is set to begin this week, with those on the scheduled-release domain seeing the update shortly afterward. In recent months, Google has made several improvements to the Meet platform, including a redesign for better feature organization and the introduction of emoji reactions for enhanced user engagement during meetings.
A notable change also includes a new tile design that incorporates profile colors into the interface for a more personalized experience.
