Recent reports from a Weibo tipster suggest that Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 SoC has shown promising performance results in preliminary tests. Allegedly, the new chip achieved a single-core score exceeding 4,000 points and a multi-core score surpassing 11,000 points, significantly outperforming its predecessor, which registered scores of 3,100 and 9,800, respectively. The tipster, known as Digital Chat Station (DCS), indicated that these results likely stem from a Geekbench 6 performance test. The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 carries the model number SM8850 and is expected to incorporate a 5.0GHz Prime core.
Additionally, there is speculation that the chip will feature the Adreno 840 GPU, which promises “very high” performance. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite made waves earlier this year with its powerful Oryon CPU cores, and anticipation is building for the next iteration. According to a rumor from April, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 might be released sooner than originally expected, possibly by the end of September 2024, instead of the previously projected October launch. While specific details surrounding the chip’s architecture remain unclear, there are hints that Qualcomm might retain a similar setup, consisting of two Prime cores and six performance cores.
It’s also been suggested that the new generation could benefit from “enhanced Pegasus” cores, which would further elevate its capabilities. As Qualcomm prepares for the launch of this next-generation chip, pricing may remain a point of concern, mirroring challenges faced with the first model. In the coming months, we look forward to gaining more insights into the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2’s specifications and its impact on future flagship devices.
