A widespread outage affected several major services, including Google and Spotify, impacting thousands of users this afternoon. Reports of issues began surfacing on DownDetector, with a peak around 2:30 p.m. ET, as many struggled to access Google’s services such as Cloud, Search, and Gmail.
This outage capped off a challenging week for users, as various Google services, including Meet and Nest, also faced disruptions. In addition to Google, platforms like Spotify and Amazon reported issues, although Amazon later clarified that its operations remained unaffected. By 3:30 p.m.
ET, DownDetector logged over 13,000 reports related to Google Cloud and more than 27,000 for Spotify. Google acknowledged the widespread outage on its incident status page, noting a multi-region disruption. The company has identified the root cause of the issue and is actively working toward full service restoration.
It also assured users that engineers are addressing ongoing problems. Cloudflare, which utilizes Google Cloud for some of its services, stated it was affected indirectly but confirmed that all of its services have since been restored. Meanwhile, several third-party applications reliant on Google, such as Snapchat and Discord, experienced outages due to the disruptions in Google’s cloud services.
However, reports indicate that users are beginning to see a gradual return to normalcy. While many have speculated about the extensive nature of the outage, Amazon confirmed that their AWS operations were normal and dismissed the concerns as unfounded. The situation appears to be improving, but users are advised to remain alert as services stabilize.
