The tech company Nothing is shifting gears with its upcoming flagship device, the Phone 3. In a recent update, the company confirmed that the Phone 3 will feature a new Glyph Dot Matrix system rather than the old Glyph interface. A brief video released by Nothing reveals that this innovative matrix will be strategically positioned in the top right corner of the back of the device, just above the camera array.
The previous Glyph interface allowed users to interact with their phones through various light notifications, such as timers and charging status indicators. However, with this new direction, it appears users will experience enhanced functionality. The teaser showcases a dynamic design effect of the matrix, accompanied by the tagline, “When light becomes language.” This suggests that the matrix may relay information without the need for users to check their screens.
It’s likely some features from the old Glyph system, such as notifications and charging status, will be incorporated into the new design. Earlier this year, Nothing hinted at this shift away from the Glyph Lighting technology. The company dramatically announced, “We killed the Glyph Interface,” emphasizing its evolution in design.
While the Glyph lights provided a unique aspect to the user experience, the Phone 3 aims to redefine that interaction with a modern twist reminiscent of other gaming phones in the market. In addition to this aesthetic overhaul, Nothing recently confirmed that the Phone 3 will be powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 SoC, promising an impressive performance boost with a 36% faster CPU and significantly improved graphics. Furthermore, customers can expect extended software support, with five years of Android OS upgrades and seven years of security updates set to enhance the device’s longevity.
