Spotify users may soon experience high-fidelity audio streaming, as evidence of lossless audio functionality has been discovered in the app’s latest code. This feature, which could finally be on the verge of launch after years of anticipation, is predicted to be exclusively available to Spotify Premium subscribers.
High-resolution playback could reach levels up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz. This development aligns with previous reports regarding a potential “Music Pro” add-on, further emphasizing Spotify’s commitment to enhancing audio quality.
The signs of the impending lossless streaming feature have surfaced in the Spotify app’s version 1.2.66. According to a Spicetify account on X, references to lossless audio were found in various user interface sections of the app.
The findings included mentions under “Connect to the device” and the Now Playing Bar, indicating a focus on integrating this feature into multiple areas of the platform. With the implementation of lossless streaming, users could consume up to 1GB of data per hour, utilizing formats such as FLAC and Widevine, and expecting availability on both Spotify Connect and the Web Player.
Spotify first hinted at introducing lossless streaming back in 2021, but the feature has yet to come to fruition. Recent reports suggest Spotify is also exploring a new tier called Music Pro, potentially adding higher-quality audio streaming and additional features such as AI-assisted remixing tools and concert ticket access for an extra cost of around $6 per month.
All these developments signal that Spotify is moving closer to delivering better audio quality to its users in the near future.
