Recent leaks have revealed details about Google’s prototype smart glasses, suggesting they are internally referred to as “Google Martha.” These Android XR glasses were first showcased at the Google I/O event in May 2023, drawing attention for their potential capabilities. According to app developer Sayed Ali Alkamel, who shared information on the glasses alongside a companion app, Google Martha is designed to enhance user experience through several interactive features. The companion app allows users to check the battery status, manage notifications, and control recording functionalities directly from their Android devices.
The app’s interface offers insight into the smart glasses’ capabilities, emphasizing features like battery percentage display and options for customizing notification preferences. Users of Google Martha can also enable or disable recording from their view, presenting an all-in-one solution for managing experiences with the glasses. Michael L. Hicks from Android Central had the opportunity to try out the smart glasses, which utilize a display on the right lens, a design reminiscent of the original Google Glass. The glasses operate with the help of the Gemini software, allowing for advanced analysis through their holographic display.
Users can interact with the glasses by pressing the temple side, triggering various functions. While the unveiling of “Google Martha” is exciting, Google has not announced any plans for commercialization at this time. In contrast, a co-developed Android XR headset by Samsung, codenamed Project Moohan, is expected to launch this fall, hinting at the growing interest and development in the augmented reality space.
