YouTube is currently testing a new AI-powered feature for its Premium subscribers, rolling out an experimental search results carousel that aims to enhance the search experience on the platform. This test, which lasts about a month, is available on both Android and iOS devices. Users can expect to see AI-generated titles, descriptions, and video clips aimed at helping them find relevant content. When subscribers perform a search query, they may encounter a section labeled “Highlights” containing suggested videos and topic descriptions tailored to their inquiry.
However, it is important to note that not every search will produce these AI-driven highlights, similar to other AI implementations by Google. For instance, searching for “best beaches in Hawaii” will trigger this feature, showcasing a highlighted video clip alongside several related thumbnails. The carousel, indicated by a distinctive AI star, will encapsulate the video clip along with its AI-generated title and description. This aims to provide users with quick insights into topics of interest or relevant products.
As with many AI features, users are encouraged to be cautious as the technology may not always provide perfect results. The AI carousel will be accessible from June 26 to July 30 for YouTube Premium users. In tandem with this rollout, YouTube is also expanding its conversational AI testing to some non-Premium users within the United States. This initiative reflects YouTube’s ongoing investment in AI technology, which includes features like an “Ask” button that allows users to request summaries or additional information about videos.
YouTube has been gradually integrating AI into its platform, demonstrating a commitment to enhancing the user experience through innovative solutions.
