YouTube Music is currently testing a new feature that allows users to share song lyrics on social media, taking inspiration from a similar function offered by Spotify. This feature enables users to select specific lines from their favorite songs, customize a color palette, and share those lyrics on platforms such as Instagram Stories.
The aim of this feature is to enhance user engagement and keep pace with rival music streaming services. The lyrics sharing feature was recently discovered by a Reddit user and is currently in the testing phase.
YouTube Music already provides access to song lyrics in the Now Playing section of the app. Once the feature is officially launched, users will be able to select desired lyrics quickly, and a new Share button will appear.
Tapping this button will generate a share sheet complete with icons for various social media platforms. Presently, YouTube Music users can share their preferred tracks on Instagram, Snapchat, and other platforms.
The introduction of lyric sharing, along with the ability to enhance the appearance of lyrics through color palettes, adds a creative touch to social sharing. Alternatively, users will also have the option to download the selected lyrics as an image for further use.
This move reflects YouTube Music’s ongoing efforts to catch up with competitors by introducing engaging new features. As the platform continues to evolve, it may present a compelling reason for users to return from services like Spotify.
Earlier this year, YouTube Music also began testing a redesign of artist pages, indicating that more updates could be on the horizon for 2023.
