Plex Pass is set to increase significantly, with prices rising from $119 to $249 starting April 29. If you’re considering upgrading, now is the optimal time to act. Having used Plex for nearly a decade, I can attest that it’s a great starting point for those looking to establish a local media library. While the free version offers an impressive array of features, the Plex Pass unlocks additional utilities like hardware-assisted transcoding, mobile content downloads, advanced controls, and the ability to skip intros—something I find particularly useful.
Currently, Plex Pass is available for $4.99 per month, $39.99 annually, or as a lifetime subscription for $119.99. However, after April 29, the monthly fee will rise to $6.99, the annual fee to $69.99, and the lifetime option will soar to $249.99. Moreover, the popular remote streaming feature will be restricted to Plex Pass subscribers, meaning anyone who shares their library with friends or family must opt for a paid plan. Fortunately, the old pricing structure is still in place for now.
If you frequent Plex and wish to snag the lifetime plan at the current rate, this is the best opportunity to do so. I purchased my Plex Pass a few years ago for under $100, and it has proven invaluable since. Although I don’t utilize the transcoding feature, the overall benefits make it a worthwhile investment. If sharing your library has been important in the past, I strongly recommend getting Plex Pass before the price hike.
Plex remains an excellent choice for a local media server, and with a substantial price increase on the horizon, now is the ideal time to subscribe if you use the service regularly.
