Ever found yourself wondering what song is playing in a café or on the radio? Now, Android users can turn to Gemini for an answer.
The newly updated Gemini app allows you to identify songs by playing, singing, or humming them, addressing a much-anticipated feature for music lovers. Previously, when users requested song identification through Gemini, they were redirected to other apps or search engines, which interrupted the experience.
However, recent updates have integrated a built-in song search function that significantly enhances Gemini’s usefulness. This development is particularly beneficial for Android users, as it brings Gemini closer to the capabilities offered by its predecessor, Google Assistant.
To utilize this new feature, simply ask Gemini, “What song is this?” The app will initiate full-screen mode and prompt you to perform the tune.
As Gemini listens, you’ll see a distinctive pulsing sphere indicating that it is actively searching for the song using Google’s advanced algorithms. This feature is versatile, capable of detecting songs in various settings, be they nearby music or melodies you hum.
Despite these advancements, Gemini’s song recognition process still lacks seamless integration. When a song is identified, it redirects users to the Google app’s full-screen listening mode.
This transition is not as fluid as the Pixel’s Now Playing feature, which allows for quick voice commands, tap shortcuts on the lock screen, and offline functionality. Moreover, results are shown on a separate Google Search page instead of within the chat interface, leading to a disjointed user experience.
Currently, the song identification feature is exclusive to Android, leaving iOS users waiting for a potential rollout in the future.
