Google Messages has recently introduced a significant update that makes it much easier to manage and eliminate spam texts. A new “Unsubscribe” button has been integrated into the app, allowing users to quickly stop receiving unsolicited automated messages. This feature is designed to enhance the user experience by providing a prompt at the conclusion of spammy messages, indicating an option to unsubscribe. Tapping this button leads to a quick pop-up asking for the reason behind opting out.
Users can choose from five predefined reasons: “not signed up,” “too many messages,” “no longer interested,” “spam,” or “other.” This added specificity gives users more control over managing unwanted communications. In addition to this new feature, Google Messages has been proactive in spam control. Whenever a suspicious text arrives, the app offers options to block or report the sender immediately. If a user decides to take action, a notification prompts them to include a report before finalizing their decision.
Once you unsubscribe, a confirmation message will appear, stating that the unsubscribe request has been sent. A “Start” button will then be available, allowing users to resubscribe if they change their mind later. This feature is also being rolled out for RCS Business Messages and is currently in testing among users in certain regions, including the U.S., UK, Brazil, France, Germany, India, Mexico, and Spain. While the rollout is still ongoing, it’s surprising that such a straightforward feature has taken some time to emerge.
If you haven’t received the update yet, rest assured that it’s on its way to becoming available for all users soon.
