Google is launching a new safety feature called Loss of Pulse Detection for Pixel Watch 3 users in the U.S., starting today. This opt-in feature will automatically monitor your pulse and alert emergency services if it detects a loss of pulse. The full rollout will take a few weeks to reach all Pixel Watch 3 owners.
Previously, Loss of Pulse Detection was introduced in other regions, but it required FDA approval to be available in the U.S. After receiving the necessary approval in February 2025, Google announced that this feature would be part of the March Pixel Feature Drop. Although initially expected to be available by the end of March, the feature is now officially rolling out as of April 8, 2025. This critical safety feature can identify when a user is unresponsive and lack of pulse is detected.
If such a situation occurs, it will automatically prompt a call to emergency services, adding a vital layer to the existing Emergency SOS functionality already available on the smartwatch. To enable Loss of Pulse Detection, users will need to manually activate it once it becomes available on their devices. This can be done through the Google Pixel Watch app on their phone by navigating to Safety and Emergency and selecting Loss of Pulse Detection.
After following the on-screen prompts, the feature will begin monitoring heart rate and will detect any absence of pulse. Before its U.S. launch, Loss of Pulse Detection had already been implemented in 14 other countries, initially debuting for Pixel Watch 3 users in Europe last year. As part of the April 2025 update, it is being made available today, with widespread accessibility anticipated in the following weeks.
