MediaTek has unveiled its latest flagship technology, the Dimensity 9400 Plus SoC, designed to significantly enhance smartphone performance. This new System on Chip (SoC) employs a Big Core architecture featuring one Arm Cortex-X925 core running at 3.73GHz, alongside three Cortex-X4 cores and four Cortex-A720 cores. MediaTek claims that this structure will elevate the overall Android user experience.
A standout feature of the Dimensity 9400 Plus is its integrated 12-core Arm Immortalis-G925 GPU. This powerful GPU enables “PC-level” gaming capabilities, including advanced features like opacity micromapping, which enhances the realism of elements such as vegetation, hair, and animal fur. The GPU not only increases power efficiency by 40% but also reportedly doubles the effective frames per second (FPS) for gaming, thus minimizing lag during extended gameplay.
Furthermore, MediaTek has made significant improvements in edge-AI performance with the introduction of the NPU 890. This chip supports the DeepSeek R1 LLM, which enhances on-device assistance and integrates four cutting-edge technologies, including Mixture of Experts and Multi-Head Latent Attention. These advancements have led to a 20% boost in generative AI performance compared to the original Dimensity 9400.
In addition to gaming and AI functionalities, the Dimensity 9400 Plus aims to improve video recording capabilities through its Imagiq 1090 technology, which supports HDR recording across the entire zoom range. Other notable specifications include enhanced satellite connectivity features and an expanded range for Bluetooth connections, increasing up to 8 kilometers. The MediaTek Dimensity 9400 Plus SoC is set to be available in Q2 2025, marking a significant leap forward for flagship smartphones.
