Google is reportedly planning to enhance the At a Glance feature on Pixel phones, potentially rebranding it as Gemini Space. This new iteration is anticipated to draw inspiration from Samsung’s Now Bar, aiming to provide real-time information directly on the lock screen. The upgrade is expected to expand beyond the current weather and calendar notifications to include live sports scores and financial updates. Currently, Pixel users have access to two versions of At a Glance.
The standard variant comes from the Google app, while the Pixel-exclusive edition is integrated into the Pixel Launcher, offering context-aware information across various categories. According to sources, including Mishaal Rahman of Android Authority, the forthcoming Pixel 10 may feature a substantial redesign of At a Glance with the Gemini Space branding. The addition of live sports updates and finance summaries would significantly increase the utility of the lock screen widget. Early indications of this enhancement appeared in the Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1, where references to a system configuration titled “Ambient Data” were discovered.
This suggests that the upgrade might extend to devices beyond the Pixel 10, specifically affecting the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 8 Pro. Further investigations revealed mentions of an “Ambience Hub,” hinting at a novel method for displaying useful information on either the lock screen or an always-on display. The integration of these elements is linked to the Android System Intelligence app, which currently powers the At a Glance widget and reportedly includes instructions for fetching finance and sports updates. While the anticipated improvements to the Pixel Launcher’s At a Glance are exciting, it remains essential to note that these developments are based on initial findings and informed speculation, leaving room for surprises in the final product.
