Samsung may soon introduce a subscription model for its Galaxy Watch health features, a move anticipated by many. In a recent interview, Hon Pak, the company’s senior vice president and head of digital health, acknowledged that Samsung is considering paid subscriptions for its Health app, which would provide users access to more advanced coaching and features. The discussions surrounding this potential monetization come on the heels of Samsung unveiling several AI-backed health features earlier this year, especially as part of its One UI 8 Watch beta. Pak emphasized that the motivation behind these developments is to offer meaningful support for users’ health in a time where managing wellness can be challenging.
He noted, “There’s illness, there’s cancer, and so many other conditions that are actually preventable.” Samsung aims to help users maintain healthy behaviors relevant to their lifestyles. As for the financial implications, it remains unclear how much monthly or yearly subscriptions might cost and whether Samsung plans to provide tiered options. If the company proceeds with implementing this model, more details could be unveiled later this summer. Samsung has also showcased a range of exciting health features that may be part of the subscription service.
Among these are Bedtime Guidance, Vascular Load monitoring, Running Coach, and Antioxidant Index, with the latter being an innovative feature designed to measure carotenoid levels in just five seconds. While many of these features are currently available for customers with eligible devices, some, like Vascular Load, can only be accessed through the Galaxy Watch Ultra. As Samsung continues to innovate in health technology, users may soon face a choice between free and premium features to enhance their wellness journey.
