The Fairphone (Gen 6) has officially arrived, prioritizing sustainability and user repairability with its modular design. This smartphone features 12 easily replaceable parts, allowing users to perform repairs with just a single screwdriver.
Additionally, it runs on /e/OS, an Android-based operating system developed by Murena that focuses on privacy and offers tracker-free apps, as well as encrypted cloud storage. This latest model is a successor to the Fairphone 5 and is making its debut in the U.S., alongside other regions such as the U.K. and parts of Europe.
Users can enjoy a privacy-focused ecosystem with /e/OS, which includes essential native apps like Mail and Calendar, along with Murena’s Workspace for enhanced privacy features. These additional tools incorporate end-to-end encryption, enriched parental controls, and functionality allowing users to locate their device via SMS.
Performance-wise, the Fairphone (Gen 6) is equipped with the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 SoC and features a main 50MP rear camera system. While the exact battery capacity is unspecified, it remains easily replaceable and is believed to be safeguarded by Gorilla Glass 7i.
The company assures excellent durability with a standard five-year warranty and promises all-day performance. Design-wise, the Fairphone (Gen 6) retains a conventional aesthetic, featuring squared-off edges and rounded corners.
The camera layout has shifted from a visor to individual lenses, with a back that can be removed quickly using just two screws. Preorders for the Fairphone (Gen 6) commence on June 25, with deliveries expected to start in August.
Pricing and finalized software details have yet to be disclosed.
