Google Voice has launched significant updates to enhance its functionality, particularly for Workspace subscription users. The most notable addition is three-way calling support, enabling users to easily manage conference calls. With this new feature, users can start a call with one person and then merge calls for a group conversation. The updated interface prominently displays the “Add” and “Merge” options, streamlining the process of connecting multiple callers.
The update also revamps the call screen, ensuring that essential tools are easily accessible. The “Add” button now rests on the top row of options next to features like Transfer and Hold during an active call. Users can quickly access a list of suggested contacts or search for someone directly, making it simple to add a third person to a call. Once added, the new contact is placed on hold and can be merged into the call, transforming it into a conference call.
These improvements come after an earlier update in February that introduced “call delegation,” allowing users to transfer calls with ease. This feature mimics corporate phone systems, enabling users to either transfer calls immediately or ask for confirmation before doing so. The latest update aims to make call management more intuitive for all Google Voice users. Importantly, while three-way calling support is currently rolling out to those with Voice Starter, Voice Standard, and Voice Premier subscriptions, along with SIP Link users, the UI upgrades will soon be available to all Google Voice users.
The rollout began on May 1 and is expected to be completed within about 15 days. This marks a noteworthy advancement for users seeking a more efficient calling experience with Google Voice.
